Discussion after the film will be led by Professor Sandy Figueroa.
Dead Man Walking (1995), depicts the real-life journey of Sister Helen Prejean as she accompanies a convicted murderer to his execution in Louisiana. The movie shows the transformation of Sister Prejean as she’s caught between concern for the life of a man to be executed and the victims’ families. Showing no easy answer to capital punishment, the movie vividly illustrates the struggle of one lone woman willing to challenge the system and move beyond the confines of a traditional women religious congregation.
