In 2017, the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Hostos Community College hosted another Walls of Writing day: “Writing the World.” We invited students, faculty, staff, and all Hostos community members to share their thoughts on a series of paper walls mounted at every entrance to the college, responding to prompts on everything from the state of the world to the human condition. Here is a sample of what Hostos had to say.
October 20th, 2009 was declared the “National Day on Writing” by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). It recognizes that writing is critical to literacy and should be celebrated. Hostos Community College and the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Hostos participated by erecting paper Walls of Writing in the lobbies of our campus buildings. Hundreds of people stopped to write something on the walls and to share their thoughts; many more took the time to write in Hostos’s National Day on Writing Blog or to record a video. To commemorate the day and to share the experience, Writing Fellows Elisa Legon and Chris Swift put together this video.
