The conference featured four breakout workshops on a variety of topics.Each Breakout Workshop was facilitated by subject area experts from Hostos community College. The these sessions were sessions that provided practical solutions and advice to specific issues related to trauma.
BREAKOUT WORKSHOP 1
Meditation as a Trauma Informed Tool within the Classroom with J.C. Williams
Group Leader: J.C. Williams, E.d.M (Behavioral and Social Sciences)
This short session presented attendees with basic instruction on Passage Meditation as an interdisciplinary tool. Attendees learned how to construct and participate in a brief meditation session.

BREAKOUT WORKSHOP 2
Trauma Informed Mindful Movement
Group Leader: Ursula Sander Ursula Sanders, MSEd. (The Health & Wellness Office).
In this short session participants will learn about the benefits of Trauma Informed Mindful Movement and how to implement and incorporate it into the classroom routine. Participants obtain first hand knowledge of the practice through engaging in a round of Trauma Informed Mindful Movement followed by a brief discussion.

Practical Advice for Recognizing and Addressing Trauma in the
Classroom
Group Leader: Lowell Finkelstein, MD (Behavioral and Social Sciences)
In this short session, participants reviewed how trauma may be presented in the classroom. Attendees shared specific experiences related to how trauma affected their students’ academic performance and discussed what specific interventions they have offered that could lead to greater academic success.

Telling Stories: Expressing Trauma through Narratives
Group Leader: Stacey Cooper, Ph.D (Behavioral and Social Sciences)
This short session introduced participants to the usefulness of storytelling as a means of self-expression within the classroom and everyday life. Narratives can take myriad forms including textual, visual and auditory. Participants will were introduced to several types of useful narrative formats.
