Use good judgment about content and respect privacy laws.
Posts cannot violate any international, national, or local laws. These include, but are not limited to, intellectual property, trademark, and copyright laws. The posting of profane, abusive, obscene, libelous, hateful, or similarly negative content is strictly prohibited.
Hostos will have sole discretion in determining if a comment or post is profane, abusive, obscene, libelous, hateful, or similarly negative.
Representation of your personal opinions as being endorsed by the College or any of its organizations is strictly prohibited. You may not use the Hostos name to promote any opinion, product, cause, or political candidate.
Hostos must comply with any requests for the disclosure of posts and communications as required by law or governmental authorities. In the event that such a request occurs, Hostos will do so with no liability to the person(s) involved.
By posting content to any social media site, you agree that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to that content, that your use of the content is protected fair use, that you will not knowingly provide misleading or false information, and that you hold the College harmless for any claims resulting from the content.
Hostos reserves the right to remove, delete, or block any content for any reason from Hostos owned and/or operated sites, including, but not limited to, content that it deems threatening, obscene, a violation of intellectual property rights or privacy laws, or is otherwise injurious or illegal.
When using or posting online material that includes direct or paraphrased quotes, thoughts, ideas, photos, or videos, always include citations. Respect copyright and trademark laws and reference or cite sources appropriately (i.e., provide a link to the original material if applicable).
Any link or download that contains a virus, malware, spyware, a computer worm, or any similarly damaging program is strictly prohibited.
Links or comments that contain spam, junk mail, unwanted solicitations, or political associations are prohibited.
Employees and student workers who manage Hostos social media sites or contribute content to them as representatives of Hostos Community College must not make derogatory comments about students, faculty or employees and must always protect confidential information by neither requesting it from users nor posting it on publicly viewable sites.
Feel free to provide unique, individual perspectives on non-confidential activities.
Feel free to offer advice in your area of expertise that will provide value to the online community.
Consider all audiences before you publish and make sure you aren’t alienating any of them. Remember that your readers include current students, potential students, alumni and parents, as well as current/past/future employees.
Hostos College, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, successors, and assignees are indemnified of any legal liability that occurs as the result of a posting by an outside party on a Hostos-affiliated social media site that violates a law or creates a legal claim. Any costs, liabilities, and reasonable attorney fees arising out of such a claim will be reimbursable to Hostos College by the poster.
All responsibility related to the security, privacy, and confidentiality of posting information on the Internet is understood by parties who post information on Facebook and other social media sites. Hostos College is not responsible for the loss of security, privacy, or confidentiality related the posting of information on a social media site.
Any dispute or claim arising of content on a Hostos web or social media site shall be bound under the jurisdiction of the Bronx, NY.
