Creating and uploading quizzes to Brightspace can feel tedious, especially when formatting questions for bulk import. This simple workflow helps CUNY faculty quickly generate, format, and upload multiple-choice quizzes using a combination of CUNY Copilot, a Quiz Formatter Agent, and the LMS Test/Quiz Question Generator.
With these AI tools, you can:
- Automatically generate quiz questions from your own teaching materials (PDFs, PPTs, etc.).
- Format them perfectly for Brightspace bulk upload.
- Save time on manual entry and focus more on teaching.
This guide walks you through the process in just a few steps—from question generation to uploading directly into Brightspace.
Step 1
Generate Quiz Questions with CUNY Copilot
- Use CUNY Copilot Chat to generate multiple-choice quiz questions. Follow the instructions in the CUNY Copilot – Basic link below.
- Optionally attach learning materials (PDFs, PPTs, etc.) to create questions tailored to your content.
- Use a prompt like:
“Generate 5 multiple-choice questions with answers marked in bold.” Feel free to adjust by adding to the prompt. - Check the accuracy of the generated questions.
Step 2
Format with the Quiz Formatter Agent
- Copy the Copilot output and paste it into the Quiz Formatter Agent. This agent converts your questions to the correct format for Brightspace bulk upload, which will happen in the next step.
- The Quiz Formatter Agent is made in CUNY Copilot, and you need to log in with your CUNYFirst credentials to access it (FirstName.LastName##@login.cuny.edu).
Step 3
Use LMS Test/Quiz Question Generator
-
Go to LMS Test/Quiz Question Generator using the link below. This open-source resource is developed by Algonquin College.
-
Paste the formatted questions from step 2 into the text box.
-
Click Generate Test/Quiz Questions at the bottom of the age. The text should turn green if there is no formatting issues.
-
Click on the Download button at the bottom to download the generated file (usually a .csv or .txt) for Brightspace.
Step 4
Upload to Brightspace
- Log in to Brightspace.
- Go to your course and navigate to Quizzes.
- Create (or edit) a quiz.
- Click on the Add Existing button and select Upload a File.
- Upload the file downloaded in the previous step and review the questions before finalizing.
If you wish, you can also upload the generated questions into the question library to be used in question pools.
