Instructors can create a demo student to preview a course from a student’s perspective. As a demo student, instructors can fully interact with the course as a student would, including completing quizzes, submitting assignments, and checking grades and feedback.
Note. A demo student is associated with an individual course. Only one demo student at a time can exist in a course. The Demo Student account should be removed from the course after instructors have finished previewing it to prevent any impact on class data.
Click on the Tools link at the course top navbar (if not visible, click on More).
Select CUNY Demo Student.
Click on the Create Demo Student button.
A dialog box will indicate that a demo student has been created.
Click the OK button.
Navigate to the Classlist tool on the course top navbar. If not immediately available on the navbar, the Classlist link can be accessed in the More link group or through the Course Admin link.
Note: Please avoid deleting the demo account at this stage, even though the red “Delete Demo Student” button appears in the middle of the screen.
1On the Classlist page, type “Demo Student” in the search bar and click on the search icon.
2Locate the Demo Student account and click on the arrow pointing down next to its name. Select the Impersonate option.
A dialog box will open asking for confirmation. Click on Yes to continue.
The user’s name at the top-right of the window will be replaced by Demo Student, Impersonating. You are now impersonating a demo student.
Once you are finished previewing the course, click Demo Student on the top right.
Click on the X next to Impersonating: Demo Student to return to instructor view.
Click on the Tools link at the course top navbar (if not visible, click on More).
Select CUNY Demo Student.
A dialog box will ask if you wish to proceed with deleting the demo student. Select Delete Demo Student.
A dialog box will confirm the demo user was deleted successfully.
