What We Have in Common(s): WordPress and its Anthologizing Possibilities

Abstract:

This presentation addresses the experience creating the Teaching and Learning Commons website for the Hostos Community College English Department. Topics in the presentation will include digital democracy and open access, and the “anthologizing possibilities” of such sites. The capability to collect and organize links to online curricular texts is a powerful way to showcase the distinctive intellectual and pedagogical bent of teaching faculty in a department. For both students and faculty, sites like the Learning Commons can serve as an anthology, one that is potentially more democratically curated and more readily available than traditional print anthologies.
