In December 2021, Elon Musk made headlines by announcing his intention to buy Twitter for $44 billion, a move that
stunned the tech industry and sparked heated debates about the future of the platform. In the months since the
acquisition, Twitter has undergone significant changes, both in terms of its features and its user base. This proposal aims
to explore the effects of Musk’s purchase on Twitter usage through the lens of its effect on our Library’s Twitter profile.
In this presentation, we will examine the following questions:
• How has our userbase changed?
• What effects has Musk’s ownership had on user engagement?
• Has the acquisition led to any notable changes in the content or tone of Twitter conversations, and if so, what are they?
• What does this mean for the future of Twitter and for organizations that use this tool as part of their social media
portfolio? What does it mean for students navigating the changed information landscape.
