Abstract:
The Springshare LTI tool will provide for both manual and automatic integration of course- or discipline-specific library resources and research support into Blackboard. Librarians CUNY-wide have access to Springshare platforms such as LibGuides and Libguides E-Reserves, and many have been using them to support student learning for many years prior to LTI integration. LibGuides provides highly customizable online guides with library resources, tutorials, or other support, typically customized by disciplines, courses, or specific assignments, and LibGuides E-Reserves provides secure access to subscription database articles and other online materials serving as required or recommended readings for a given course. Using manual Springshare integration, faculty will be able to add LibGuides content from any page of any LibGuide to any spot within their Blackboard course. Where automatic integration is enabled, Guides and/or E-Reserve pages will be matched to discipline, course, or section and made available through the students’ Blackboard tools menu. Supplemental information such as library hours, chat-with-a-librarian widgets, and links to librarians with disciplinary expertise may also be made available through this tool. The Springshare LTI tool is currently in a testing phase at multiple CUNY campuses, through a collaboration between librarians and Blackboard administrators. This presentation will include demonstration of both manual and automatic integration in a testing environment, and information about taking up this initiative at your campus.
