Stephen Powers

Professor, Department of Education & Academic Literacy, Bronx Community College

Stephen Powers is a professor appointed to the Department of Education and Academic Literacy at Bronx Community College (BCC), where he has worked since September 2000. His previous experience includes: being a middle school teacher, an elementary school principal, and a high school assistant principal before joining CUNY. His research interests have included teaching with technology, mentoring in the urban community, and now a developing interest in the digital divide as it relates to the achievement gap. He currently is serving as interim chair of his department, though his typical teaching involves Introduction to Early Childhood Education, the History of Urban Education, and the Fieldwork Experience. He also serves BCC in the office of the Ombudsman (student advocate), chairs the Committee on Academic Standing, and serves on CUNY-wide committees on technology.
