The Bronx CUNY EdTech Showcase, held annually in May, promotes and highlights the innovative uses of technology that have the potential to reach new levels of student engagement leading to improved performance.
Three BRONX CUNY colleges (Lehman, Bronx CC, and Hostos) see this event as a great opportunity for networking, collaborating, sharing technical information, and building upon effective practices within our CUNY Community.
The Office of Online Education at Lehman College is proud and excited to have hosted in 2013 the first edition of this initiative, a unique event that brought together colleagues from the three Bronx City University of New York colleges (Lehman, Bronx Community College, and Hostos) to illustrate their commitment to exemplary teaching and learning in the online environment. The audience comprised of representatives from 18 colleges within our CUNY community were exposed to the insights, experiences and perspectives of 57 presenters throughout the day!
Future Bronx CUNY Educational Technology (EdTech) Showcases will be held annually in May, to offer faculty an opportunity to share their innovative uses of technology to reach new levels of student engagement and improved performance.
The showcase is an excellent prospect for networking, collaboration, sharing technical information, and building effective practices. For 2013 we continued in the tradition of bringing notable guest speakers to Lehman College to the delight of our audience of faculty, staff, students and administrators. Joining us this year a number of distinguished professionals were among our Keynote and Plenary Speakers:
- Dr. Howard Wach, CUNY Faculty Fellow, office of Academic Affairs, morning keynote
- Dr. Michael Preston, Director of Blended Learning Strategy for the NYC Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Readiness, working lunch keynote
- Jessie Daniels, Professor at the Graduate Center and Hunter College and Matthew Gold, Associate Professor of English at New York City College of Technology, afternoon plenary.
Our guests spoke about projects and concepts that expand the reach of social media for academics. They discussed issues like social justice and developing collaboratively networked open-source classrooms of the future.
This full-day showcase event was comprised of a plenary, three 55-minute break-out sessions and two keynote speeches. The speakers discussed recent practical uses of technology in education, focusing on strategies, experiences and techniques with emphasis on improving student participation, performance, and engagement.
