RADio568: Connecting Ideas and the Community

Abstract:

How does a mass media instrument fulfill the many needs of a college? RADio568.com is a streaming Internet service with live broadcasts and podcasts. Primarily this mass media tool is used to support the Self, Media and Justice course in the English Department. This presentation examines how RADio568.com has developed, what it does now, and the problems it faces in practical application—getting programming completed and broadcast on a five day schedule—in matching pedagogical outcomes, and in wider institutional acceptance. Comparisons will be made to other CUNY college radio stations formats.
