Evolution of Synchronous Session via Reflection and Feedback

Sherese Mitchell, Professor, Eucation, Hostos Community College

Learning Modalities
Virtual Room

As a first timer teaching in a synchronous format, the presenter learned many lessons as she navigated the synchronous environment. The lessons are derived from frustration and speaking with colleagues and students. Trial and error, observation and reflection were key in developing a format for student success in a synchronous environment. As some students missed the interaction among peers and the professor, the synchronous environment soothed some of those academic desires and necessities for students. Finding a balance over two semesters of teaching in a synchronous environment helped the presenter incorporate strategies which helped students become more comfortable in such an environment. In this session, participants will learn of the presenter’s journey with synchronous teaching as she points out specific strategies which help her students thrive in an online environment today.
