The increasing variety of teaching modalities and technology integration in education necessitates a shift toward
multimodal course design. This presentation introduces the Mapping Multimodal Terrains (MMT) course, a professional development program aimed at empowering faculty to design and deliver inclusive, accessible, and student‐centered courses. The MMT course is divided into two parts: Multimodal Teaching Bootcamp and Multimodal Teaching Mastery. Participating faculty will develop a strong foundation in multimodal course design and implementation, focusing on high‐ impact practices like project‐based learning, gamification, and flipped classrooms.
The MMT course employs a badge system to recognize faculty achievements and encourage progress. Badges are awarded upon completion of each pathway and its prerequisites, including in‐person, asynchronous, and synchronous modalities in the Bootcamp section. The Multimodal Teaching Mastery section introduces more complex pathways, such as online mix, hybrid, and hyflex modalities. The presentation will detail the MMT course’s objectives, structure, and badge system, highlighting its gamified approach to fostering faculty expertise in multimodal course design.
