The Bronx CUNY EdTech Showcase promotes and highlights innovative uses of technology to bring students to new levels of engagement and academic performance. 2017’s showcase was held on May 2nd, 2017 at Bronx Community College’s Hall of Fame Playhouse and the beautiful new North Hall and Library. Jessica Brodsky, Learning Designer & Program Manager, Active Learning Institute, Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Columbia University presented the keynote address. The session examined a case study in faculty development for active learning, and used it as a jumping off point to identify guiding questions and evidence-based approaches for preparing instructors to intentionally select and meaningfully integrate active learning strategies inside and outside their classrooms. Our 2017 panel was moderated by Mark Lennerton, Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, Bronx Community College. The panel consisted of:
  • George Otte, University Director of Academic Technology/ CUNY Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, CUNY SPS
  • Christine Mangino, Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs, Hostos Community College
  • Ediltrudys Ruiz, Assistant Vice President, Information Technology, Lehman College
  • Luis Montenegro, Dean, Academic Affairs, Bronx Community College
This collaboration among the three CUNY colleges located in the Bronx (Lehman, Bronx CC, and Hostos) strengthens the bonds among campuses that serve similar student populations and is a model for inter-campus community-building throughout CUNY. The annual event provides opportunities for networking, sharing information, and building sound, technologically-rich pedagogical practice within the CUNY community.
