With support from the Office of Academic Affairs, a series of conversations has been designed and is scheduled for spring 2017 to address the preparation, needs, and questions of faculty at each stage of the tenure-track journey at Hostos. The COACHE survey indicated that faculty desired more clarity and support related to understanding and fulfilling the faculty evaluation guidelines for reappointment, tenure and promotion. In addition to the Office of Academic Affairs maintaining a set of portfolio guidelines which includes standards for annual reappointment, tenure, and promotion, the Center for Teaching and Learning offers a year-long orientation for first-year faculty which includes instruction on portfolio assembly and review for decisions made related to reappointment. As noted by the COACHE survey results, however, there is more that can be done to nurture the culture of faculty success.
A series of seven conversations have been crafted to offer support for faculty who are approaching different stages of their careers. Members of the department and college-wide P&B Committees will co-facilitate these dialogues which are meant to provide strategies and best practices for meeting the established expectations. The conversations include:
- General Portfolio Design for Faculty (all faculty welcome)
March 9 @ 3:30pm in A137
- Awakening Your Passion (2nd and 3rd year faculty)
March 28 @ 3:30pm in A137
- Checkpoint with the Provost (4th year faculty)
