On April 17th, 2015 the Hostos CSTEP Program attended the 23rd Annual CSTEP Statewide Student Conference 2015 at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, New York for a 2-day conference. Three staff members, Dr. Moise Koffi, Director, Mrs. Diandra Jugmohan, Co-Director and Ms. Marie Balo Lou, Program Administrator along with 4 undergraduates, Mr. Brian Gallego, Ms. Jenny Moncion, Ms. Karabi Mitchell and Mr. MD Khan represented Hostos Community College among 44 institutions of higher education in New York State, 405 students, 119 administrators, and 60 professionals.
Three students were selected to participate in the research poster competition and one student was designated to represent the Hostos Community College CSTEP Program as Student Ambassador.
Research topics include:
1. Cholesterol-lowering Drugs Alter Neuronal Morphology in a Juvenile Songbird Model System, presented by Ms. Jenny Moncion;
2. Possible Alterations in Parvalbumin Immunopositive Interneurons in Layers 3 and 5 in Area 32 of the Prefrontal Cortex in Schizophrenia presented by Mr. Brian Gallego;
3. Role of p38 MAPK signaling pathway and Sigma 1 Receptor on induction of Apoptosis in response to Ad.p53 and Rimcazole in Breast Cancer Cells presented by Ms. Karabi Mitchell
At the conference, students and staff also participated in several workshops, such as “Show Me The Money: Strategies For Securing Funding for STEM Graduates Programs presented by Ms. Tiffany Simon”, Getting Selected to Your Dream Graduate or Professional Programs presented by Ms. Albieri Guilheme” and “Student Success: Seed to Bloom presented by Dr. Napolean Wells” as well as the Annual CSTEP Graduate Fair.
Hostos CSTEP is pleased to announce that the “Role of p38 MAPK signaling pathway and Sigma 1 Receptor on induction of Apoptosis in response to Ad.p53 and Rimcazole in Breast Cancer Cells” presented by Ms. Karaby Mitchell received the 2nd place trophy in the Cell and Molecular Biology category with Honorable Mention.
