Service-Learning is alive and well at Hostos. Right now the members of the Service-Learning Committee are working with Imagining America to help create a definition of Service-Learning at Hostos and to create a mission statement with goals and objectives to meet our mission statement. Our first planning meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 pm. Later in the spring semester, Dr. Kevin Bott, Associate Director of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, will visit Hostos to review our documents and speak directly with the members of the Service-Learning Committee.
Our liaisons with New York Campus Compact, Professor Sarah Hoiland and Professor Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla, and I met with Provost Christine Mangino and Dr. Laurie Worrell, the Executive Director of New York Campus Compact. Dr. Worrell expressed her gratitude and excitement that Hostos Community College is a member of New York Campus Compact.
