Hostos Online Learning Initiative

Goals: As a participant of the Hostos Community College Online Learning Initiative, you have agreed to design and implement a hybrid or asynchronous course for the fall of 2017. The purpose of the following meetings is to communicate ideas, issues, and insights into the process of your course design, along with introduction to various tools and pedagogues that can work in online teaching.

Hybrid Initiative

For a course to be considered hybrid, between 33 – 80% of the instruction has to occur online. For example, if a regular face-to-face course meets twice a week, the hybrid course will only meet once per week in the physical classroom, and the remaining content will be offered online. If a face-to-face course meets three times a week, the hybrid course will meet either once or twice per week in the physical classroom, and so on. Blackboard is the official platform for online instruction at CUNY.

Asynchronous Initiative

For a course to be considered online, more than 80% of the instruction has to occur online. The instructor can decide to meet students in a traditional face-to-face classroom to complete examinations and other related tasks but it is recommended that most of the teaching and learning processes take place within the online environment through Blackboard, which is the official platform for online instruction at CUNY.
