CTL History The Center for Teaching and Learning was created under the leadership of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2003, who appointed the first faculty director and Advisory Council. A permanent, full-time higher education officer was hired in July 2004 to support the work of the CTL. Hostos Community College was awarded a Title V grant in October 2004. The grant included a faculty development component, which strengthened the presence of the Center in and across the divisions of the college. The Title V activities, along with CTL’s emphasis on professional development programming, created a rich environment where faculty could engage more regularly in campus-run activities to enhance their professional and leadership skills. In October 2014, Hostos Community College was once again awarded a Title V grant. Through the grant, the Center for Teaching and Learning continues to support pedagogy, faculty and students and celebrates outstanding Hostos faculty and student achievements. Additionally, CTL also supports research opportunities for faculty in belief that they can facilitate important pedagogic moments for students.
